Eden serves to restore freedom for the captives of Asia's red light districts through holistic programs- transforming body, mind and spirit. Using our international jewelry business as a platform, we provide career and skill training- empowering women for a new life and future. We continually innovate prevention and outreach programs- transforming entire communities. Eden is a voice to the oppressed, a light to the darkness.
Eden Ministry began in 2003 when a group of us women sensed God's burden for prostitutes as we walked the streets of Asia's red light districts.
Since that time, we have discovered that most of the women we meet didn't choose the life they are living. Many were tricked into prostitution through deception or trafficked through organized crime syndicates. Others simply left their villages in search of employment in the big cities, hoping to earn an income for their poverty stricken families. However, their limited education and lack of contacts in the cities seldom lead to decent job opportunities. Instead, the lure of a high salary with no educational requirements, drives many such women to prostitution.
Our approach to serving the needs of these woman with God's love takes many forms:
To enable women to have a sustainable income during their journey of restoration, we created Eden Jewelry, an international jewelry company. Jewelry making has been one of the most effective alternative career options available through our program. All the proceeds from the jewelry sales go to salaries for the girls and food and shelter expenses, as well as providing new training opportunities.
Eden Ministry has set up supervised apartments, where women who are ready to leave prostitution can get free room and board. Trained counselors are on site to mentor, disciple and counsel the women through their healing journey and to help them grow spiritually in Christ. The women can also learn life skills and train for a new career.
Due to the spread of HIV/AIDS and other STDs in Asia, Eden is involved in helping these women understand more about the daily health dangers they face. We also offer crisis pregnancy counseling and free medical check-ups and treatment as part of our holistic approach to reaching out to these women.
Eden reaches out to local high schools to educate young girls about the dangers of traffickers. We are committed to giving these young women the tools to recognize potentially dangerous situations and to avoid the world of prostitution.
When the police raid a brothel, the girls are put straight into a detention center without a hearing or a trial. Their stories of having been trafficked, beaten and forced are not heard. Local staff lead our ministry to the women in this prison. We visit the prison weekly, bringing food and toiletries while sharing the hope and healing that is available to them through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Our staff is regularly on the streets prayer-walking the red light districts. We visit brothels and build relationships with both the women and the brothel owners, taking the opportunity to develop trust and friendships. We offer the hope of a new start to the girls by coming to our shelters. We also spend time with the brothel owners and mafia bosses to encourage them to make a change for good in their lives.
